The power of body language
In another article I wrote about the three main forms of presentation of being hospitable. Body language is one of them.
Your body speaks before you speak
Suit or pajamas?
During a presentation I gave about the Model of Attention®, someone from the audience asked me: “How is it with body language when you work at home, having a business call?” Good question. My answer was basically a question in return: “How do you feel when you are in your home office, having an important business call, while wearing your pajamas?”
You are what you wear
When I was little boy I played cowboys and Indians with my friends. The remarkable thing was that I did not act like a cowboy, I felt like a cowboy. So I was a cowboy. It seems that “dressing up” and the attitude and mood change that comes with it is not bound to age. Because put on a tuxedo as a man and see what happens to you. Put on a stylish dress as a woman and see what happens to you. A general of the Armed Forces looks differently in his full military uniform than when he’s wearing a casual outfit. Your looks and attitude have a big impact on your psyche and your surroundings.
You communicate as you feel
You’ll feel more comfortable and convinced when you wear the right clothes. On the other hand, people can be very satisfied with their choice of clothing for a specific occasion and feeling uncomfortable because of a ‘bad hair day’. The way you communicate is a reflection how you feel. A famous saying is: ‘Your body speaks before you speak.’ Think that over, if you are in contact with others, in any situation.
With warm regards,
